Day 8

Hola! Here we are again in Budapest greeting our beloved fans living across the “pond.”

We had a great time exploring Budapest on Sunday. I,Jevrem, went to my family friend’s house to get lunch and enjoy some home bringing atmosphere. Lunch was the mixture of Serbian and Hungarian traditional meals since my friend’s wife is from Budapest. Following the lunch we went to the local coffee shop where we tasted some extraordinary coffee and Hungarian chocolate.

While Jevrem was exploring Budapest home culture, Jonathan B. was exploring the Budapest Zoo. He saw lions and tigers and bears (oh my) along with a variety of different animals. The highlight though was getting to be up close to elephants (and playing on the playground inside the zoo). He followed up the visit to the zoo with a tasty langos lunch.

Today, on the other hand, we had a fun time waking up early for our math class starting at 8:30. A few people had some trouble navigating the metro so early and were almost late, but thankfully everyone arrived on time eager to see what we were about to learn. In class we learned how to write proofs using contradiction and used those skills to find out a number of interesting facts about prime numbers like the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic.

After finishing up with our class work, we headed off to explore the many aspects of the Hungarian Education system. We visited Lauder Javne Zsidó Közösségi Iskola or the Lauder Javne Jewish Community School in Budapest. It was a combination elementary, middle, and high school. There we met a number of high school students studying English. They gave us a tour around the school while we asked each other questions about Hungarian and American culture. It was a really fascinating experience to see all the differences between a Hungarian high school and the high schools we went to growing up.

After successfully completing our homework, Jevrem and Jono, went to make some gainz. Despite the lack of any soul in the gym, we were still the biggest individuals in the room. This glorifying moment was predestined for a photo shootout.
What's bigger, the egos or the muscles?
Daily workout + daily milka bar = net gain of zero
Tonight, for dinner, we went to a little Hungarian restaurant. It was one of the best meals many people with us had the entire time they were in Budapest. Jonathan had a piece of cooked pork topped with hungarian style bacon, which was practically fried fat topped with seasoning. Jono had chicken steak with veggies, and everyone had a delicious cup of goulash. Jevrem opted to stay in and had some exciting toast from Aldi.

We had a great time both this weekend and today exploring a number of different aspects of Budapest culture and we can’t wait to explore more tomorrow.
